You are sitting on a park bench when someone shouts out your name.
You have earphones on, so, you barely hear it, you came out for some alone time and your first thought is to pretend you didn’t hear it. However, since there’s nowhere to run, when he calls out your name again, you reluctantly turn around and smile, he walks up to you, asks how you are in 10 different variations, you exchange idle conversation for a few minutes, you keep glancing down at your phone, trying to make it sort of obvious that you are either busy or not wanting to socialize just then.
You start to talk about how work was stressful with so many customers and so, you decided to take a walk after to clear your head and take some alone time, you pretend that someone is actually waiting for you somewhere and you have to rush off, you pretend to have a headache and can’t talk much, you call your sister and pretend it’s going to be a long call, you do everything and give every excuse you can think of, except saying what you really mean/want.
I just want to be alone.
Because people these days are way too sensitive.
Everyone claims to like the truth but a little honesty offends us.
I mean, why is “I have a headache, I want to sleep” more acceptable than “I’m sorry, I don’t feel like talking right now” as an excuse for not wanting to talk.
I think it’s like a good friend put it; it’s people and how we have gotten caught up in this false life of fake smiles, lies and emotions.
